Many of our friends and associates have travelled to the Ḥaramayn. Some
will be supplicating and weeping profusely at the Multazam (that part of
the Kaʿba lying between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaʿba). What
wonderful moments were they, when we would circumambulate (perform
ṭawāf) the Kaʿba with Shaykh Zakariyyā !
In those days the crowds were not so large, so we were able to take his
wheelchair and position it by the Black Stone. Two people would lift him
up from the wheelchair and he would cling to the Black Stone and kiss it
with ease. When he had completed his circumambulation and two rakʿats
ṣalāh, we would take him to the Multazam. There he would weep for a
long period. Shaykh was very fair; even at the age of eighty, his body was
hairless and wrinkle-free just like a suckling infant. He would stand there
weeping and perspiring profusely, his face (visibly) turning bright red.
Once in the month of Ramaḍān, I saw Shaykh Abū’l Ḥasan ʿAlī Miyā
Nadwī right at the time of ifṭār (breaking the fast), clinging to the
Multazam, weeping and supplicating for this Umma. May Allāh safeguard
the Muslim Umma as a result of the supplications of these weepers.
