I remember one occasion in Saharanpur during one of Shaykh Zakariyyā’s
programs after ʿAṣr ṣalāh. On one side of the congregation the eminent
scholars and respected teachers would sit, and in front of Shaykh the
students and the general public would be gathered. Tea would be prepared
for the entire gathering. As it was my responsibility to assist the Shaykh
to drink his tea, I sat on his bed, and while I was helping him drink tea,
a father brought his little suckling child to Shaykh so that he would
supplicate for him. Shaykh stopped drinking his tea and supplicated for
the child. Seeing strange faces, the child began to cry. Shaykh tried to
speak but was unable to, due to him holding back his tears. He could hold
on no longer and began to weep saying, “Dear child! As there are no more
weepers left in this world you might as well weep.”
