In the recent past on the Indian Subcontinent, we have seen that among our elders, the first to perform the iʿtikāf of the whole month was Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Quṭb al-Aqṭāb Shaykh Muḥammad Zakariyyā Muhājir Madanī (may his secret be sanctified) in Saharanpur, in the 1960s. Since then until the present day, this practice of performing iʿtikāf is still prevalent there. The iʿtikāf that Shaykh used to perform in the blessed month of Ramaḍān was a result of his intense desire to habitually proceed in life with the thought of the Leader of Both Worlds at the forefront of his mind, and to focus solely on him. This iʿtikāf during the whole month of Ramaḍān was a sunna of the Leader of Both Worlds , although the iʿtikāf of only the last ten days is an emphasized sunna (sunna mu’akkada)
